Microsoft has taken a new step in boosting productivity: Copilot Chat is now available for free within Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. This means you can now benefit from smart AI assistance directly within your familiar working environment.
What’s new?
- In-app Copilot Chat
You can now chat with Copilot in a side panel within Office apps, without switching between apps or uploading files. Copilot understands the context of the document you’re working on and provides relevant answers and suggestions. - Smart file references
By typing the “/” character in the chat, you can quickly reference and add other files to your prompt. Copilot even automatically suggests the most relevant files. - Visual collaboration
Upload multiple images directly in the chat to share ideas or process visual input. Improved user experience with a larger input field for longer prompts and quick access to features such as Pages, image generation, and agents. - Powered by GPT‑5

Free and premium capabilities
Copilot Chat is available at no cost to all Microsoft 365 users, but it is not pinned to your toolbar by default. Want to use it? Ask the administrator of your Microsoft environment to enable it for you.
