How strong is your internal data security? After all, cyber threats do not only arise from the outside. Your own colleagues can also unconsciously cause the necessary risks. Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solves that for you. We want to tell you more about this somewhat underexposed, but very useful solution for strengthening your security policy.
What exactly is DLP?
It’s very simple. DLP is a collection of techniques and services that allow you to keep confidential data onboard. Think of personal and financial data. DLP tools supervise the safe storage, transmission and processing of these data. To do this, you use policies, which you can set yourself via templates or have set up by an NDI engineer.
So how does DLP secure that data?
You can set policies for data within any part of your IT. Think of data stored on your network, or currently being copied or moved to another location. Data used by apps and email is also monitored. So you can consider DLP a digital customs officer who scans your data before it is ‘passed through’. If data is shared in a way that goes against your policy, the colleague and administrator can receive notifications.
Handy, but what are the concrete benefits?
The big advantage of DLP is that confidential data cannot be processed in an unsafe way. For example, you prevent colleagues from consciously or unconsciously, sending certain information via email when that is not the intention. Copying data to USB sticks, for example, can also be stopped. This prevents data leaks and all the misery that comes with it. Moreover, DLP is an enormously suitable tool to demonstrate that your security policy is in line with the guidelines of the GDPR.
Why is DLP so important right now?
Organisations nowadays work with a massive amount of digital data, and that will only increase in future. The more data, the higher the risk for your data security. You just don’t want to run those risks, especially when it comes to confidential data. Even if your colleagues make a mistake, your data must remain safe. DLP makes that easier and more user-friendly than ever.
Available as part of Microsoft 365
Within Microsoft 365 you have a wide choice of DLP tools, including for Microsoft Teams. Super handy, especially if you already work with a cloud workstation based on Microsoft 365. In no time you secure your data from the inside. This way, you and your colleagues can work safely without your data ending up on the street.
